Job Opening: Communications and Social Media Manager

About the Position:

We are hiring a Communications and Social Media Manager for the Freedom School 2026 project. The position begins on May 1 and will be remote, with an in-person requirement from July 27 to August 16.

As Harambec is an organization by and for Black people, we operate on a single-gender basis. Priority for this position is therefore given to individuals who identify as Black.

About the Project: Freedom School

Freedom School combats anti-Black racism by providing a safe and supportive space where young people ages 12 to 18 can explore their identity, reclaim their history, and develop practical tools to resist systemic oppression. This year, Freedom School will take place from July 27 to August 16.

Content Creation

  • Create daily content before, during, and after the Camp concludes in the following formats:
    • Publications sur Instagram, site Internet www.harambec.com, Facebook, YouTube et Newsletter.
    • Production of posters, visuals, stories, and reels.

Communication Management

  • Act as liaison with funders (ensure that logos are used, that funders are appropriately acknowledged, that artistic guidelines are followed, etc.)
  • Connect with Harambec members through daily posts

Campaign Execution

  • Develop a posting and communication schedule
  • Execute the communication campaign through the end of the project

Language and Localization

  • Ensure that content is optimized for bilingual deployment (French and English)
  • Be based in Montreal for the duration of the Freedom School project

This position may be ideal for you if you:

  • have experience in content creation (comfortable with cameras, video editing tools, photo editing, etc.)
  • have strong writing and storytelling skills (in English and French)
  • have experience with content creation tools
  • have design skills
  • have a creative yet structured mindset and a strong capacity for autonomy and initiative
  • are able to execute tasks quickly
  • are fluent in both English and French, both spoken and written, since all content is produced in both languages

Since Harambec is an organization run by and for Black people, we operate on a single-identity basis. This position is therefore reserved for individuals who identify as Black.

What success looks like in this role:

  • Provide daily content on the aforementioned social media platforms
  • All communication requirements set by funders are met within the specified deadlines.

  • Drive strong engagement with content (click-through rates, shares, time spent on pa

We offer :

  • $33.26 per hour
  • Flexible schedule before camp
  • Work from home (except during camp, which runs from July 27 to August 16)
  • Lunch and a transit pass during camp

The position ideally runs from May 1 through the end of August. On-site presence in Montreal is required from July 27 to August 16, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
