Inventé par l’écrivaine, éducatrice et organisatrice communautaire Shirley Small, Harambec est un mot-valise formé à partir de harambee, mot swahili évoquant le principe d’entraide, et de Québec. Ce nom représente les défis quotidiens auxquels les femmes afrodescendantes doivent faire face dans cette province.
