Context
Harambec was established to continue the struggle initiated by previous generations in the defense and empowerment of Black women and Black non-binary people. As a nonprofit legal entity, we operate under Quebec’s nonprofit organization (NPO) regulations, registered on July 7, 2023, under the Quebec enterprise number (NEQ) 1178899655. Our mission is to combat systems of oppression and foster an environment where the voices, stories, and talents of our community members are recognized and celebrated.
MISSION
Our mission is to defend and promote the rights of Black women and Black non-binary people in Quebec. We implement academic, community, and artistic initiatives, adopting intersectional and decolonial approaches. Our goal is to work towards the self-determination of our communities and to highlight our political, intellectual, and artistic contributions.
VISION
Harambec aspires to become an essential reference for Black women and Black non-binary people. We are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive space that resists all forms of oppression, where their voices and experiences are valued and celebrated. We position ourselves as a radical and innovative initiative, offering a unifying alternative to current community organizations. Through a holistic approach, we aim to work towards a radical transformation of our current systems, particularly by mobilizing our communities for a lasting and profound impact.
Services Offered
We offer a range of services aimed at strengthening the capacities of our members, including:
- Mentorship and Networking: Establishing a mentorship network with a schedule of regular meetings involving key actors in various sectors, all through an inclusive and intergenerational approach.
- Mobilization and Outreach: Organizing conferences, panels, retreats, and artistic events to promote the contributions of our members.
- Archives and Knowledge Transmission: Preserving the archives of struggles led by Black communities and creating courses on their contributions to the arts and social sciences.

Based in Montreal, we primarily serve Black women and Black non-binary people throughout the province of Quebec. Harambec is committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment, and our work focuses on academic, community, and artistic sectors.

To meet the needs of our organization, we are looking for individuals with the following expertise and experience:
- Communication and Marketing Skills:
- Experience in communication strategy, public relations, and digital marketing.
- Ability to promote Harambec’s initiatives and increase the organization’s visibility.
- Fundraising and Resource Development Experience:
- Expertise in developing fundraising strategies, grant research, and financial partnerships.
- Ability to mobilize resources to support the organization’s programs and projects.
- Public Relations:
- Experience in public relations, ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with various stakeholders and partners.
- Information Technology:
- Expertise in information technology, with the ability to manage and secure the organization’s information systems.
- Philanthropy:
- Experience in philanthropy, with the ability to mobilize resources and develop financial partnerships to support Harambec’s initiatives.
Commitments and Availability
Board members and strategic committee members must commit to actively participating in monthly meetings, key events of the organization, and fundraising activities. The estimated number of hours of involvement varies depending on the positions:
- Approximately 50-100 hours/year
